The Rottweiler continues to be a much favored watch dog and guard dog to this day, as well as a trusted companion and family member. The highly protective nature of the Rottweiler makes it a great choice for guarding homes as well as livestock, but it also means that it is very important for owners of these dogs to properly socialize their puppies. A properly socialized Rottweiler can be a lifelong companion and trusted friend, but a poorly socialized dog can be a danger to people and other animals. The Rottweiler is one of the largest of all dog breeds, and one of the heaviest as well. When buying a puppy from a breeder, it is important to get assurances that the parents have been tested for this genetic defect. Reputable Rottweiler breeders are constantly trying to breed this disease out of their puppies.
