Saturday night I stopped by the barn (I visit the boys twice on Saturday, crazy horse lady that I am). When Harv popped his head up from to greet me I gasped -- his right was gigantic, swollen shut, tearing. For all that, Harv seemed okay, munching on hay and generally in good spirits.
I think his fly mask (which he wore all of last year) rubbed his eye. It does fit a bit snug but the next size up is waaaay toooo big. I opted to wait till morning before calling the vet. I gave him some bute and eye ointment and asked the night check person to check him. The swelling was down Sunday, and I work Sundays at the barn so I was able to monitor him. He continues to improve. Sigh of relief?
Point is, I'm ever more grateful for products like GreenGel, and judging from the entries to win some GreenGel, we all would be grateful for GreenGel. Bob and I picked winners last night: Here they are! Make sure to send me your mailing addresses (behindthebit@gmail.com):
- TallDarkSpotty: fans for the stalls that the horse could power by pulling on a rope.
- McFawn: Tailzap
- Happy Haiku: powder or granules to sprinkle over wet bedding to remove or neutralize the urine
- Kirsten: power some arena lights with treadmills and eliptical machines. We can workout and watch the lessons at the same time!
- Kate: use rainwater for baths and keeping the rings watered down when they get dusty.
Extra recognition!
I particularly like the idea of a horse powering his own luxury item (fan in this case), so TallDarkSpotty, tell me what T-shirt size you'd like and a BTB tee is yours! And Madman, I loved your idea for its usefulness (it was not quite a "green innovation"). Send me your address and I'll send along your Rolex baseball cap. Hope you like pink.
